Preventative Care

Preventive care is more than just taking your pet to the vet once a year for vaccinations. Routine veterinary visits help your pet live a longer and healthier life.

Wellness Exams

Wellness exams are the cornerstone of your pet’s health. Wellness exams allow our highly trained doctors to evaluate all of the major systems of your pet and recommend appropriate health care plans tailored to your pet’s specific needs. A typical wellness examination will include an evaluation of the following items:

  • Comprehensive Physical Exam
  • Nutritional Assessment
  • Parasite & Tick Borne illness screens
  • Dental health assessment
  • An update of necessary vaccines based on your pet’s needs and environmental concerns
  • Behavioral changes

At Pet Wellness Group we don’t rush you through your appointments. We schedule 30 minute appointments so that you have ample time with the doctors to have all of your questions and concerns addressed. Our focus is on preventive medicine to detect diseases or illnesses early so that steps can be taken to increase the quality and quantity of your loved one’s life.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are one of the most important aspects of your pet’s care. They play a critical role in helping your pets avoid many serious or potentially deadly infections. Vaccines work by helping your pet’s immune system fight infections from disease-causing microorganisms. Vaccines not only provide protection for your pet, they also help protect other pets that may come in contact with the rest of the pet population. Vaccinating your pets greatly reduces the risk of spreading disease.

Most pets have no issues after vaccination. Some pets may experience mild injection site pain or act lethargic after their vaccines. This is usually not serious and will go away within 24-48 hours. This is no different than the pain or lethargy you may feel after receiving your annual flu shot.

Vaccine reactions, while rare, are a possibility. Possible signs of a reaction include: vomiting, diarrhea, swelling in the face, difficulty breathing or collapse. If you notice any of these signs after a vaccination you should contact us right away.

Not all vaccines are created equal. We use only the safest, most effective vaccines available.

Our feline vaccines are non-adjuvanted, meaning there are no additives to the vaccine. This prevents the risk of vaccine-induced tumors. Not all vaccine lines can make this claim; we have chosen the safest most effective lines on the market.

Our dog vaccines are the most effective and least reactive vaccines on the market.

We use the vaccine guidelines developed by AAHA (the American Animal Hospital Association). We will discuss environmental and other risk factors in determining the vaccines that we recommend for your pet.

Parasite Control

Parasites are more than an inconvenience for your pet. Over time, a parasite can stunt growth, aggravate existing medical conditions, and result in life-threatening infections. To avoid complicated treatment plans and costly bills, prevention is key. Routine examinations and laboratory testing are a great way to start.

There are also a number of preventative medications that protect pets against parasites. The industry’s best dewormers and oral medications can be found in our online store and at our clinic. These products will protect your pet against common parasites, such as:

  • Roundworms, heartworms, hookworms, and tapeworms
  • Ear Mites
  • Ticks
  • Fleas

If your pet spends a lot of time outdoors, it is especially vulnerable to these parasites. Give us a call, visit the online store, or stop by our clinic to purchase parasite medication. And if your animal is already infected with a parasite, trust Pet Wellness Group for caring and professional treatment.

Microchipping

Microchipping has become an industry standard, and for good reason. It is a safe way to ensure that you are reunited with your pet should you ever get separated. Call Pet Wellness Group for our microchipping services or to learn more about these benefits:

  • The procedure doesn't take long at all and can be done in the office. For puppies and kittens we recommend implanting during their spay or neuter procedure.
  • Once implanted, the microchip cannot be tampered with and will never need to be replaced.
  • A microchip poses no risk to your personal information as it contains no data except for a reference number.

Once your pet has been microchipped, it can be identified anywhere in the country. So if you like to travel with your animal, you have a built-in safety net.

Nutrition & Weight Management

Good nutrition enhances pets’ quality of life and is integral to optimal animal health. Yet, it is something that is often overlooked at routine veterinary visits.

Whether a pet is young or old, overweight or underweight, struggling with other health issues or perfectly healthy - every pet should receive a nutritional assessment at every veterinary visit.

Our desire is to raise awareness and educate our clients about the importance of proper pet nutrition, and the value of nutritional assessments for every pet, every time. Proper diet and weight management for your pet can greatly improve the quality of their life and add as much as 20% to their life.
